The Boston Red Sox have the attention of free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.
Alonso reportedly has told friends that they’re high on his list of potential destinations , according to Peter Abraham of the The Boston Globe.
Alonso, 31, has roots in the region, having met his wife — Haley, a native of Quincy — during his time playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Alonso slashed .272/.347/.524/ with 38 home runs and 126 runs batted in, while topping the National League with 41 doubles — tied with Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson — in 2025.
The Red Sox have been tied heavily to the five-time All-Star, with many believing he can be the man to fill that spot in the middle of the batting order left vacant with their trade of Rafael Devers and the uncertain future of Alex Bregman.
