A new car tax system has been launched targeting owners of certain models.

These drivers will be charged based on how far they travel over a year.

The pay-per-mile tax will apply to those who drive electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids.

It will be an extra cost for these motorists to consider.

Owners of EVs will be charged at a rate of 3p-per-mile rate, while it will be 1.5pm for those with hybrids.

Motorists doing the average 8,500 miles a year will pay £255.

Of course, many Brits cover more than that distance and will have to pay a higher amount.
