CANTON, Ohio – For St. Henry, winning a football state championship is a family tradition.

The latest member of the family to hoist the trophy is senior quarterback Charlie Werling, who did so after helping the Redskins to a 37-3 win over Hillsdale in the Division VII state title game on Saturday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

In the game, Werling ran the ball 19 times for 213 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing for 50 yards and a score.

As Werling was doing his thing, his head coach — Josh Werling — was watching and smiling.

Yes, they are related, but as second cousins, not as father and son, as some in the postgame press conference wondered.
