Chloé and Ric Mayers donated $1 million to Tuscaloosa Academy recently.

According to Business Alabama Magazine , the gift will go toward the school’s Building Excellence Capital Campaign, which has a goal of $7 million. The capital campaign is about 70% complete. Once the goal is met, the school will use the funds to build a 23,000-square-foot athletic center, designed by Ward Scott Morris Architecture, for student athletic programs.

The athletic center will include a gymnasium, locker rooms, a football field house, and a weight room.

“This project isn’t just about Tuscaloosa Academy — it’s about Tuscaloosa,” Ric Mayers said in a statement to Business Alabama. “Strong schools make strong communities. This athletic center will inspire pride, opportunity and connection for generations
