ROCHESTER, Minn.- On Thursday, Dec. 4, the Minnesota Office of Budget and Management held a press conference to go over its latest projections for the next 4 years.

Going into the year 2026, it is expected to have a $2.5 billion surplus and going into the 2028-29 budget year it is expected to have an over $2.9 billion deficit.

Democratic Farm Labor Senator Liz Boldon from Rochester says that there is a lot to celebrate with the news, the surplus going into 2026 will give the state flexibility.

While the anticipated deficit afterwards is disappointing, she says it has been reduced significantly from the state's original projections back in 2025 which were predicting it could be as high as $6 billion.
