FREER, Tex. (KGNS) - A Honduran national is facing federal charges after allegedly smuggling more than four dozen people in a refrigerated tractor-trailer.
50-year-old Greibein Alexis Pinot-Duarte was arrested last month at a Border Patrol checkpoint near Freer. Authorities said a K-9 unit alerted to the trailer, where they found 51 people, including two juveniles, hidden in a cramped compartment.
The temperature inside the trailer was 55 degrees, and many of the people complained of numb or cramped limbs.
If convicted, Pinot-Duarte could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
