FARGO — North Dakota State's defense set a record for interceptions Saturday, but it didn't matter.
The Bison picked off Illinois State quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse five times in a 29-28 defeat in the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs at the Fargodome, ending No. 1-ranked NDSU's season.
The five interceptions were the most in a postseason game in NDSU history and the most by the Bison in any NCAA Division I game. NDSU moved from Division II to Division I in 2004.
Rittenhouse said he wasn't rattled by throwing the interceptions and it showed. He threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and connected on the game winning two-point conversion with Scotty Presson Jr. to give the Redbirds a 29-28 edge with 1 minute left in the game.
