MADISON (WKOW) — The Hmong New Year celebration at Madison College brought the community together to honor tradition and culture on Saturday.
The event, was a significant milestone as it marked 50 years of the Hmong community in the U.S.
Angela Yang, senior administrative coordinator for the STEM Center at Madison College and a member of the Hmong New Year committee, emphasized the event's cultural focus.
“It’s a time of cultural preservation, performances, food, and getting together with family members near and far,” Yang said. The celebration included traditional attire and performances, and introduced a new bilingual singing competition.
“We’ve added the singing competition, in both languages, Hmong and English,” Yang said.
