A variety of ages, a variety of experiences, but all seeking an opportunity.
That sums up the 61 players attending the Fort Wayne Football Club open tryout Saturday afternoon at Plex South on Engle Road. Those in attendance ranged in ages from as young as 16, in the case of Bishop Dwenger sophomore Nico Rohloff, to 46-year-old Nigerian native Olufemi Akinyele, who moved to the United States in July.
Despite never seeing snow prior to this week, Akinyele stepped onto the turf at Plex South with the same goal as every other player – to sign a contract with Fort Wayne FC as it makes its debut in USL League One in 2026.
“I want to be a professional,” Akinyele said. “I’m still fit enough, and I’m still keeping the hope alive. Football is not about age. It’s about the ability. I’m good enough
