CANTON, Ohio — Hopewell-Loudon’s three-quarterback attack stretched Kirtland’s defense but could not break it.

The Hornets scored early on their opening possession Saturday and stopped the Chieftains, who came close to answering them in the first quarter of their OHSAA Division VI state championship at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. John Silvestro and Kirtland’s skilled line — on both sides of the football — took care of the rest to seize the school’s eighth state championship with a 41-6 win.

All eight titles have come since 2011 under 20 th -year coach Tiger LaVerde. The Hornets have reached the state final four or better all but once in that stretch, reclaiming the Division VI crown after falling in last year’s final to Coldwater.
