The No. 4 Texas Tech Red Raiders capped off a historic season by winning the Big 12 Championship for the first time in program history, rolling past the No. 11 BYU Cougars 34–7 on Saturday.
Texas Tech forced four turnovers in the game and, after trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, scored 34 unanswered points, including a 21-0 run in the second half.
Texas Tech had already beaten BYU earlier in the year—a game ESPN’s "College GameDay" attended in Lubbock, where the celebrity guest picker was none other than Kansas City Chiefs star and Red Raiders alum Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes has remained a huge supporter of Texas Tech athletics since becoming a first-round pick, and in the final moments of Saturday’s title game, he sent a strong message to the Red Raiders.
