A woman has tragically died after falling from the tenth floor of a tower block in Madrid while holding her three-year-old twins. The incident occurred shortly after 9am on Saturday morning in the Ciudad Lineal neighbourhood, just a day after the family celebrated the children's birthdays. The 48-year-old mother, identified only as Maria, was killed instantly. Her children were rushed to hospital, where they are reported to be alive but critically injured. One twin has been admitted to the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, while the other is receiving care at the Hospital Infantil Niño Jesús. Medical professionals have expressed grave concerns regarding the survival of the most seriously injured child. Witnesses revealed that Maria had purchased gifts for her children just hours before the incident. She lived alone following a separation from her husband, and local residents noted that she had been suffering from depression and was on medication. Some reports suggest that she believed she was being spied on and followed. The apartment block from which she fell is located on Calle Ricardo Ortiz, a quiet residential area approximately 30 minutes from Madrid's city centre. A spokesman for the city ambulance service confirmed the incident, stating, "We can confirm the death of a woman who plunged from the tenth floor of a block of flats in Ricardo Ortiz. Two children aged three have been taken to different hospitals." National police are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, with local police and firefighters also responding to the scene.
