POLK COUNTY, Iowa —
A Polk City woman will serve 25 years in prison after admitting to driving under the influence and causing the death of her son, according to the Polk County Attorney's Office.
Abby Amenson, 42, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by operating under the influence. She also must pay $150,000 in restitution to her son's estate and damages to other victims.
She told the judge she regretted using methamphetamine before driving. Amenson's car crossed the center line on Northwest Fisher Lane in Ankeny, hitting an SUV and killing her 10-year-old son, Maxwell, in July 2024 .
