The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has released its 2024 annual crime report.
Every county in the state is listed, and the numbers reflect all law enforcement agencies. In the Midlands, counties including Orangeburg, Saluda, Newberry and Calhoun saw some of the largest increases or decreases in their crime statistics.
SLED’s annual crime report looks at what kinds of crimes are happening in each county and how those numbers rise or fall from year to year. In 2024, the Midlands counties that saw an increase in violent crimes were Lee and Sumter. The ones that saw a decrease were Calhoun and Saluda.
SLED also reports on property crimes. In the Midlands, Saluda and Newberry saw increases — Saluda by more than 33% and Newberry by more than 16%.
