The La Salle College Explorers captured its first PIAA state title since 2009 after defeating Pittsburg Central Catholic 34-20 in the Class 6A championship game.

Here are three reason why the Explorers got it done.

The Joey O’Brien takeover

Football is truly a team sport. No one can do their job without the help of others. However, O’Brien made a mockery of that.

The Notre Dame commit contributed a hefty amount on offense, but it was his play on the defensive side of the ball that shut the door on PCC.

His three straight interceptions, including the game-sealing, 95-yard pick-six, stopped any momentum the Vikings had gained up until that point.

Its rare that a single player, especially in the secondary, takes over a game. However, O’Brien is a different caliber of player.
