PHOENIX — A bill introduced in the Arizona Legislature proposes setting speed limits on bikes and electric scooters traveling along Arizona's pathways.
Before the 2026 legislative session has officially begun, a state lawmaker has suggested limiting how fast bikes and e-scooters can move in the state.
Arizona Senate Bill 1008 proposes setting a 15-mph speed limit for bicycles and e-scooters using a bike lane or multi-use path clear of other individuals.
The bill additionally wants to set a 5-mph speed limit on cyclists and scooter-riders when they pass others on a path. SB 1008 said the speed limits would also apply to e-bikes, motorized skateboards and miniature electric scooters.
In addition, the bill would allow local authorities with jurisdiction over bike lanes and multi-use paths
