Pickleball has grown in popularity but so have the injuries, local experts said.
With proper preparation, pickleball players and athletes in general can significantly reduce the risk of injury, was the consensus.
When people play pickleball, they’re primarily putting two bodily structures at risk, said Dr. David Sohn, orthopaedic surgeon and chief of the Shoulder and Sports Medicine Division at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
The first is the rotator cuff, he said.
“The action of the rotator cuff is to help the elevate arm,” Dr. Sohn explained. “Any position where your elbow moves away from the body, your rotator cuff is involved.
