PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Central Illinois veterans and their families were honored Saturday at an annual breakfast intended for them to share their sometimes-painful stories with others who have shared similar experiences.

State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth (D-Peoria) hosted her 15th annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast at the Laborers’ Local 165 union hall.

Dozens of veterans enjoyed a hot breakfast, served by volunteers from the Peoria Fire Department, State Sen. David Koehler’s office, and our own 25News staff.

Many veterans said this breakfast has become a cherished tradition, a chance to connect with fellow service members.
