Drivers are facing significant delays as the M621 motorway has been closed in both directions due to a police-led incident. The closure affects traffic between junctions 7 and 5, with emergency services currently on the scene. The incident was reported to authorities at 4:19 am, prompting immediate action.
National Highways has confirmed that the westbound carriageway is closed between junction 7 (Stourton) and junction 5, while the eastbound lanes are blocked between junction 3 (Leeds) and junction 7. Additionally, the westbound entry slip road at junction 3 is also closed in relation to the ongoing incident.
In a statement, National Highways advised, "Please be aware, the #M621 is now closed westbound between J7 (#Stourton) and J4 (#Leeds) and eastbound between J3 and J7. Traffic is being diverted via local roads."
Live traffic feeds around the incident site have been disabled, with CCTV cameras showing a message indicating that they are under manual control by an agency or force. This has left drivers without visual updates on the situation.
As the incident continues, National Highways has warned motorists to expect delays. They stated, "There are currently no delays, but due to the nature of the incident, we are unable to confirm how long the closure will remain in place. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
Authorities have not yet disclosed specific details regarding the nature of the police incident, leaving many drivers uncertain about when the motorway will reopen. Traffic management is in place, and drivers are urged to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected areas.
