Heathrow Airport was plunged into chaos this morning after several people were sprayed with what police believe was pepper spray during a violent incident at Terminal 3.

Armed officers, paramedics and fire crews raced to the airport just after 8am following reports of multiple people being assaulted in the multi-storey car park. Police say a group of men sprayed the substance before fleeing the scene.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody. Officers are still hunting for further suspects.

Dramatic scenes unfolded as the Terminal 3 drop-off area was sealed off, with emergency vehicles lining the road. The Heathrow Tunnels were shut for a time and some Underground services were suspended, leading to significant delays for passengers travelling
