Two civilians and one Chicago police officer were injured in a shootout after police attempted to split up a fight in Morgan Park early Sunday, police said.

Police were called to the 11400 block of South Davol Avenue around 1 a.m., where they found two men, 18 and 35, in an altercation, Chicago police said in a statement.

Officers attempted to separate the two when the older man’s gun went off, striking an officer and the younger man.

The officer was shot in the chest, and a second officer returned shots, striking both men.

The younger man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, and the older man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Both were listed in fair condition.
