SNELLVILLE, Ga. — The mother of the teen boy involved in a Snellville Middle School fight video is speaking out about what happened, saying her son was assaulted first.

In a video, two middle school students, a boy and a girl, are seen engaged in a fight. The video shows the girl slapping the boy, before the boy grabs her and throws her on the desks.

The boy's mother, Adrianna Cotton, said it was the slap that set her son, Derek, over the edge.

"I guess it was a slap on the face the first time, something was said after that, and he just scrolled on his phone, it happened a few more times, where she hit him repeatedly, and the part that the video that I showed you was the last slap that she did before he finally retaliated," said Cotton.
