On Sunday, around 500 participants took part in the Ugly Christmas Sweater Run in the western German city of Leverkusen.

The five-kilometer route was less about speed and more about outrageous holiday costumes.

Hundreds of grinches, elves and ugly Santa sweaters ran to cross the finish line and grab a waffle, hotdog or hot drink at the Christmas market waiting for them.

Midway, a festive refueling station offered mulled wine, children’s punch, Kölsch beer and pastries.
