SUPERIOR, Wis. — A Superior police officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a domestic dispute early Sunday morning.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, at 2:44 a.m., an officer had stopped a vehicle believed to be related to the domestic dispute near the intersection of Tower Avenue and North 37th Street. The driver reportedly exited the vehicle and fired a gun, striking the officer.
Officials said two other police officers responding to the traffic stop returned fire and struck the suspect, who fled the scene and crashed into the nearby Superior Middle School.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital and later released, according to the DOJ.
