CANTON ‒ The Athens Restaurant, a Canton fixture for Greek cuisine for decades, is closing.

The restaurant at 816 Harrison Ave. SW made the announcement Dec. 7 on its Facebook page.

The last day will be Dec. 24.

The post on Facebook read:

"Canton ... you've been our home for 50 years. You've watched our family grow and we've had the privilege of watching yours.

Today we share some emotional news; Athens will be closing its doors on Dec. 24. Our family has reached a moment where it's time to slow down, take a deep breath and begin our next chapter.

Thank you for the memories - the morning breakfast, the lunch breaks, the coffee refills and the conversations across the counter. Thank you for the laughter, the hugs and the love.

You filled our hearts more than you know ."
