Summer McIntosh capped swimming’s U.S. Open with the event record in the women’s 200-metre butterfly on Saturday in Austin, Texas.

The Toronto athlete, now under the tutelage of legendary coach Bob Bowman, touched the wall in two minutes 2.62 seconds for the victory in her new home pool at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center at the University of Texas.

“I think that is my fastest in-season 200 butterfly, but I want to keep getting closer to that world record (2:01.81) and there are things I can work on,” the 19-year-old told Swimming Canada. “I’m pretty happy, tonight was a good swim to end off the meet."

McIntosh, who owns the next four fastest times behind the world mark, added her adjustment to training in Texas with Bowman has been good and is happy with the program.
