The Colts have emerged as one of the surprise teams in the NFL thanks in part to the strong play from quarterback Daniel Jones. And the Colts were prepared to fully invest in Jones as the team's franchise quarterback.
Those plans appeared to hit a major roadblock on Sunday.
In the first quarter of the Colts' game against the Jaguars, Jones went down with a non-contact leg injury as he was dropping back for a pass. He managed to get the throw off but was seen grabbing his heel in considerable pain.
He initially tried to walk off the injury but went back down as the Colts' medical staff attended to him.
That kind of reaction was reminiscent of other Achilles injuries we've seen in recent years, and the Colts indeed ruled Jones out with an Achilles injury.
Just a brutal blow for the Colts. If Jones' injury is diagnosed as a ruptured Achilles, he will be out for the remainder of the season and face an extended recovery.
Update: Jones reportedly suffered a torn Achilles.
