De'Von Achane has been one of the lone bright spots for the Miami Dolphins in 2025.
Now the running back is dealing with an injury that puts his availability in doubt. Achane exited Week 14 with a rib injury and headed to the locker room prior to halftime.
In many ways, Achane is the engine that powers Mike McDaniel's offense. The Dolphins are trying to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, but losing the star running back certainly won't help their ability to compete going forward.
Here's the latest on Achane.
De'Von Achane injury update
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters after the game that Achane was available to return to Sunday's game on an emergency basis.
"He was available to come back in the game," McDaniel said. "I just chose not to put him in there."
McDaniel also told reporters Achane was "hurting" while on the sideline but also revealed the Dolphins didn't see a break in the running back's injured rib.
The Dolphins ruled Achane "questionable" to return because of a rib injury. They never officially ruled him out but he did not return to the game.
The running back departed after being evaluated in the blue medical tent. Achane was carving up the New York Jets defense in the first half, totaling 105 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on just eight touches.
Miami jumped out to a 21-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, remaining in complete control on the road against the rival Jets.
The 5-7 Dolphins entered Week 14 with a 1% chance of making the playoffs, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. It remains to be seen if that will play a part in how Miami handles the injury to its star.
Dolphins RB depth chart
- De'Von Achane
- Ollie Gordon II
- Jaylen Wright
Achane has been a do-it-all running back for the Dolphins, making him the clear RB1 atop the depth chart.
The rookie, Gordon, leapfrogged Wright towards the end of the preseason. A more physical back, the Oklahoma State product doesn't typically see a lot of work, having recorded just 53 carries this season.
Wright has been buried on the depth chart, totaling just 18 carries in his second season.
