The hopes for Alabama to make the playoffs were left in the hands of the selection committee after getting a third loss handed to them by Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Despite struggling down the stretch, the playoff committee looked at the Crimson Tide’s full body of work and awarded the SEC’s regular season champions the No. 9 seed. Alabama will have a chance to avenge one of its regular season losses as it faces the No. 8 seed Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Okla., in the first round.

The winner of the first round matchup between Oklahoma and Alabama will move on to face No. 1 seed Indiana.
