Two people were killed after a confrontation between occupants of two vehicles led to a shooting Saturday morning along southbound U.S. 395, near the Long Valley Agricultural Inspection Station, in Lassen County, California, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred about 8:50 a.m. when the vehicles, each carrying multiple people from Reno, pulled to the right shoulder and an encounter began.
A CHP officer from the Portola Resident Post arrived as the shooting occurred, detaining all individuals and providing medical aid, police said. Two people died at the scene.
Investigators said everyone involved in the incident has been identified and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
