ORLANDO, Fla. — Baseball’s home run king has once again fallen short of the Hall of Fame.

On Sunday night, the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee announced it would not elect former Pirate Barry Bonds into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The 16-person committee evaluates players who were not inducted during 10 years on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) ballot. This year’s committee instead inducted second baseman Jeff Kent.

The committee only announces players who receive at least five votes. Bonds fell short of that criteria. Any player who does not receive five or more votes is not eligible until the next three-year cycle, so Bonds could next be considered for Hall of Fame induction in 2031.
