The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 9:18 p.m. on Sunday for heavy snow until 10:45 p.m. for Essex County.

“At 9:17 p.m., heavy snow was reported along a line extending from near Craftsbury to near West Haven. Movement was southeast at 25 mph,” says the weather service. “Very low visibility will pose a hazard to motorists. Accumulating snow will make travel difficult.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Barre, Rutland, Chester, Montpelier, Island Pond, Lyndon, St. Johnsbury, Woodstock, Middlebury, Newport City, Vergennes, Morrisville, Orleans, Derby Center, Charleston, Braintree Hill, Killington, Glover, Waterbury Village and Websterville. This includes the following highways: Interstate 89 between mile markers 1 and 76. Interstate 91 between mile markers 39 and 65
