Simaru Fields scored 21 points and Kelsey Thompson had 16 Sunday as Old Dominion outlasted Howard 63-59 before 2,074 at Chartway Arena.

The Monarchs (7-3) trailed 37-28 late in the first half to the Bison (7-4), who are expected to contend for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship. ODU fought its way back, finishing the third quarter on a 9-0 run for a 53-47 lead. ODU remained in front, with Fields’ free throw at the 21-second mark providing the final point.

Also for ODU, Riley Stack had five points, six rebounds and three blocks, and En’Dya Buford had eight points, three rebounds and three steals. Zennia Thomas led Howard with 21 points.
