DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- Three of Dane County's five snowmobile trails opened Sunday.
Ideal snowmobile conditions include sub-freezing temperatures and at least 6 inches of snow. Both of which have been present in much of southern Wisconsin throughout the last week.
Dane County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Kyle McNally offered several tips for staying safe and having a good time. He recommends inspecting your snowmobile before first use of the season, packing food, water, tools, and to travel with a friend if possible.
Additionally, McNally said it's important to make sure others know where you'll be and use a tracking app in case you get lost or injured.
"We've had some experiences over the last couple of years of people using different location apps that they share with their family memb
