Hardwick Hall Hotel boss John Adamson has signed a deal to take over a derelict hotel at Teesside Airport.

Successful hotel and venue company Ramside Estates has agreed to a 150-year lease for the former St George Hotel, which was closed in 2018.

The firm has ambitious plans for a multi-million-pound development with a hotel and conference and banqueting centre on the site.

It is not yet known if these plans include regenerating the current hotel, which was once part of the former RAF base, or tearing down the building and erecting something in its place.

The Mynarski Memorial at the front of the Darlington hotel, paying tribute to Canadian Second World War hero Andrew Mynarski, will be safeguarded either way.
