EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - On Sunday night, Evansville native, Don Mattingly, had a chance, to hear his name called, as the National Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Baseball Era Committee unveiled its voting results.

Unfortunately, for Donnie Baseball and his family, the former Memorial star, did not get enough votes, to get into “The Hall”. The Contemporary Era Committee focuses on players, from MLB’s modern era, after 1980.

There are 16 members, who vote, and the rules for induction are, that you must get a minimum, of 12 votes. Mattingly, only got six.

This is not the first time, he’s fallen just short of induction. He only missed by four votes, back in 2022. The only player to actually get voted in, this year, by the Contemporary Era Committee, was Jeff Kent.
