Any company that wants to build a data center in Mohave County will now face public hearings and added scrutiny over water and power use before getting approval.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Dec. 1 to adopt new zoning regulations that give the county more control over where data centers can operate. The move comes as rural communities across the U.S. try to get ahead of fast-moving developments in digital infrastructure that can bring jobs—but also place intense demands on local utilities. ×
