The horror of Pearl Harbor was etched into survivors’ minds for the rest of their lives. Many in the Rochester area shared their stories with the Democrat and Chronicle in 1991, before, during and after the 50 th anniversary of the attack, and during many commemorations over the years. Here are a few of their stories.

Two reserve units at Pearl Harbor were from Rochester. The 75 men of the 10 th Fleet Division were assigned to the supply ship USS Castor. The 75 men of the 9 th Fleet Division were assigned to the hospital ship USS Solace, a former passenger liner.
