Charles H. Kramb Sr.'s oldest and youngest sons – Metalsmith First Class John David Kramb, 24, and Seaman First Class James Henry Kramb, 21 – were killed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1841, when a Japanese bomb pierced the deck of the USS Arizona and exploded in the forward ammunition magazines next to their quarters, blowing the ship apart.
