MANISTIQUE — Fifty-nine minutes of hockey wasn’t enough to determine a winner here Saturday as the Manistique Emeralds and Cheboygan Chiefs skated to a 3-3 tie.
Manistique appeared to be in position for a breakaway opportunity before losing possession of the puck with 27 seconds left in the overtime.
Manistique carried the play early in the overtime which included a power play opportunity
The young Emeralds, however, were unable to capitalize.
Manistique (0-7-1), comprised mainly of underclassmen, was outshot 42-34.
“This is absolutely a boost for our young team,” Emeralds’ coach Steve Hinkson said. “Speed adjustment is big for us. We have one skating senior. The rebuilding season I think will be a big benefit for the kids.”
Freshman forward Cooper Gady gave the Chiefs (1-5-1) a 1-0
