With more than a month until Kansas's 2026 legislative session starts, three bills have already been introduced for the upcoming session.

Kansas representatives have introduced bills related to education, library districts and teacher certification. The bills were submitted between Nov. 21 and Nov. 23.

No school before Labor Day

Rep. Bill Rhiley, R-Wellington, introduced a bill prohibiting public school districts from starting the school year prior to Labor Day, which falls on the first Monday in September.

The bill would change the schedules for school districts around the state, which start anywhere from mid-August to early September. Kansas statutes say Kansas students must have at least 186 school days, or an equivalent amount of hours in school for districts with a four-day sc
