Rachel Reeves' pledge to cut £150 from average household energy bills could be wiped out because of the cost of nuclear energy, an entrepreneur has said. The Chancellor told the Commons in the Budget last month that the Government would scrap the previous Conservative government's Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which aimed to tackle fuel poverty.
She said it costs households £1.7billion per year on their bills and for 97% of families in fuel poverty the scheme had cost them more than it saved. Ms Reeves said as a result of scrapping the scheme and taking other "legacy costs" off bills, £150 would be cut from the average household energy bill from April.
