The Canadian Pacific Kansas City Holiday Train will give a much-needed boost to rural food banks when it visits small southern Alberta towns in mid-December.

The train, touring Canada and the United States Nov. 19 to Dec. 21, features a free concert — with popular Canadian band Barenaked Ladies performing aboard the brightly decorated stage — while raising money, food and awareness for food banks.

In southern Alberta, the CPKC Holiday Train stops in Airdrie Dec. 9; Calgary Dec. 12; Okotoks, Blackie, Vulcan and Lethbridge Dec. 13; and Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek and Coleman Dec. 14.

Southern Alberta food banks say they have all seen a significant increase in usage.
