Normally, there’s a bit of a slump in theaters after Thanksgiving’s come and gone. That wasn’t the case this year, where Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Zootopia 2 made big bucks en route to year’s end.
Per the Hollywood Reporter , Blumhouse’s horror sequel netted $109 million worldwide, with $63 million of it coming from North America. The domestic take is the biggest ever for a post-turkey day weekend and another success for the studio following Black Phone 2’s opening salvo back in October. It’s also the second-best domestic opening for a horror movie this year behind The Conjuring: Last Rites, and the second-best domestic start for a December movie since Scream 2 .
