Michael Gomes was waving his rally towel and cheering hard at Game 7 of the American League Championship Series when he told his mother he needed to go to the hospital.
The eight-year-old Blue Jays fan had been in and out of the hospital for a year and a half with an undiagnosed condition that sometimes left him in excruciating pain and unable to stand. Rogers had gifted Michael and his mom, Ariel, tickets to the game in Toronto, but they had to leave early.
Innings later, from a bed at the Hospital for Sick Children, Michael and Ariel watched on a phone as George Springer hit the home run that sent the Blue Jays to the World Series.
Because of his condition, Michael missed it at Rogers Centre. What he got last week more than made up for it.
