Auburn football will not extend its season after hiring head coach Alex Golesh.
The Tigers were one of five 5-7 teams that declined a bowl bid, according to report from On3’s Brett McMurphy.
Despite not reaching the six-win bowl eligibility threshold, Auburn’s academic progress rate put the team in position to get a bid after bowl eligible teams such as Notre Dame, Kansas State and Iowa State declined bowl invitations.
Rutgers, Baylor, UCF and Florida State were the other 5-7 teams to decline a bid, according to McMurphy’s report.
Auburn’s decision is unsurprising, as the program is in the midst of a coaching transition. Golesh was hired last Sunday, and the staff is still being put together. On top of that, multiple Auburn players are already expected to enter the transfer portal whe
