The New York Mets stated that they have kept Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz on their priority list this offseason, yet they have not signed either. Instead, they signed Devin Williams, claimed Cooper Criswell for depth, and traded Brandon Nimmo for Marcus Semien.
Alonso’s strong season in the last couple of years helped the team win. While 2025 was a disaster for the entire team, Alonso’s numbers were on target. He smashed 38 home runs and helped the Mets win multiple games. Diaz was out for most of the time, but his limited numbers were equally strong.
Despite having two top players on the team, they failed to make the playoffs. Now, the Mets are staying silent on both players, and the chances of a reunion seem to be slipping away.
