Four days after Michigan dismissed special teams coordinator JB Brown, his replacement was already identified, hired and in place.

Veteran coach Kerry Coombs, announced by head coach Sherrone Moore on Saturday, is in Ann Arbor and started work as the Wolverines’ new special teams coordinator , the coach told reporters on Sunday.

“Yes, Kerry here’s, started work,” Moore said during a conference call promoting the team’s upcoming Citrus Bowl appearance versus Texas. “Legally, we’ll get all that stuff binding as far as contract and all that, but he’s here.”

Contract terms were not immediately available, but Coombs, 64, has some work to do to whip the special teams into shape. The unit struggled greatly in 2025, with punter Hudson Hollenbeck averaging just 43 yards per kick, 10th in the B
