BEAUMONT, Texas — A man and a woman died Monday morning after a vehicle struck barriers on eastbound Interstate 10 west of Beaumont, prompting authorities to close the eastbound lanes and causing significant traffic delays.

The driver, identified as a 34-year-old Beaumont man, and a female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Precinct Four Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Their names are being withheld pending notification of immediate family.

The crash happened at about 5:20 a.m. near the 841-mile marker on Interstate 10, at Boyt Rd west of the Goodyear plant.
