GREENWOOD — A Leflore County woman has been sentenced for illegally collecting and transmitting another person’s absentee ballot, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office announced Monday.

Bobbie Jean Peoples was sentenced Dec. 2 to six months in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with the time suspended, and fined $2,718.75. Leflore County Justice Court Judge Jim Campbell handed down the sentence for one count of transmission of a ballot mailed to another.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Peoples knowingly collected and submitted an absentee ballot in July 2023 despite not being legally authorized to do so. The AG’s Office investigated and prosecuted the case.
